How My Love for Music Turned Into 15+ Live Shows

A packed crowd cheering as a band plays at one of our live shows

I've loved music for as long as I can remember, especially listening to my favorite bands.

Growing up shy and introverted, I never imagined I'd end up organizing events, let alone putting together live music shows of my own. But I guess that's where my love for music eventually took me.

The Story Behind the Shows

01

It Started With Fangirling

I grew up listening to bands like Simple Plan, Paramore, Secondhand Serenade, Boys Like Girls, and FM Static. Back in high school, I'd listen to their songs on burned CDs, the radio, and my iPod.

I was 16 when I attended my first concert, Simple Plan. I'd been listening to their music for years, but seeing them perform live and being surrounded by people who loved their songs just as much as I did made the experience even more special.

From Listening to Playing

During my college years, my classmates and I would spend our vacant hours jamming at a nearby music studio. That's where I learned to play bass guitar, joined a band that covered songs by Paramore and Flyleaf, and connected with other students who also loved playing music.

My bandmate and I were later encouraged to help revive a student organization. Through that, we started organizing jam sessions and university music festivals. We were still figuring things out back then, from conceptualizing event themes and securing dates and venues to coordinating with performers and managing things on event day.

Those were some of my favorite core memories from college, and that's where I first got hands-on experience organizing live music events.

That One Random “What If?”

When I started working, I thought I'd just focus on adulting and enjoy music as a fan. I still went to gigs, concerts, and music festivals, but I didn't expect to organize events again.

Then, in 2019, I had this random thought: What if I organized a pop-punk gig in our city?

I started reaching out to people I could collaborate with, and together, we made plans and even announced our first gig. Unfortunately, the pandemic happened, and we had to put everything on hold.

But the idea stayed with us. And in 2022, we finally got to make it happen.

15+ Shows Later

What started as one random idea grew into a passion project where our team produced more than 15 live music shows across different cities in the Philippines and built a community of over 3,000 followers.

I got to work with artists, venues, volunteers, and fellow music lovers. Beyond planning and coordination, I learned a lot about working with people, choosing the right collaborators, and creating experiences that artists and audiences would enjoy. There were challenges and lessons learned, too.

In 2026, I decided to close this chapter, with our final show planned for November 2026. I still want to be part of the live music scene, though, and I'm both nervous and excited to see where this experience takes me next.

Behind the Scenes

There's a lot that goes into putting a live show together. Here are some of the things I've handled as a lead organizer.

  • 01

    Event Planning & Pre-Production

Developing event concepts, bringing the team's ideas together, and turning them into a clear plan for each show.

  • 02

    Artist Coordination

Communicating with performers about schedules, set times, agreements, requirements, and event-day arrangements.

  • 03

    Team & Volunteer Coordination

Working with our organizing team and volunteers to assign responsibilities, coordinate preparations, and keep everyone aligned.

  • 04

    Event Logistics

Coordinating venues, equipment and instrument rentals, ticketing materials, and other logistical requirements before show day.

  • 05

    Event Promotions

Planning promotional schedules, coordinating creative assets, writing social media captions, and managing content across our event channels.

  • 06

    Show-Day Management

Overseeing on-site operations, coordinating performers and volunteers, making decisions, and resolving issues as they arise during the show.

  • 07

    Post-Event Review

Gathering feedback, reviewing what worked and what didn't, and identifying improvements for future events.

What Comes Next?

I may be closing the chapter of my passion project, but I'd still love to be involved in events and contribute to new projects.

Concerts & Music Festivals

I'm open to freelance opportunities with concert promoters, festival organizers, and production teams. I'm excited to bring my experience in event planning, artist coordination, and show-day management to larger productions, including supporting crew roles.

Workshops, Summits & Educational Events

As an Online Business Manager for educators, I'm also open to supporting their in-person events, from workshops and meetups to conferences and summits.

I'm ready to take on event planning, team coordination, logistics, and event-day operations to help bring these experiences to life.
